If you searched for wood closet systems, you almost certainly meant real wood — not melamine-coated particle board, not MDF, not laminate stickers printed to look like grain. There is a meaningful difference, and most "wood closet systems" sold online are not actually built from wood. WoodClosets.com by Lundia is. Every panel, shelf, upright, and drawer in our closet systems is crafted from 100% solid lumber, manufactured in the United States, and shipped without a milligram of added formaldehyde. That is the standard the White House required when they specified Lundia for their 2023 project — and it is the standard we apply to every closet, in every home, every day.

What Is a Wood Closet System?

A closet system is the framework of uprights, shelves, hang bars, drawers, doors, and accessories that turns an empty closet space into organized, usable storage. A wood closet system uses real lumber for those components instead of engineered composites. Lundia’s wood closet systems are fully modular and adjustable: shelves move on a peg system at any height, frames stack and connect to grow with your needs, and hang bars, racks, and drawers slot in wherever you want them. You are not stuck with the configuration you bought on day one — the system reconfigures as your wardrobe changes, as kids grow up, as you move houses. Many of our customers have been adjusting the same Lundia closets for 30+ years.

Why Solid Wood — Not Particle Board

Lundia: 100% solid lumber

Almost every "wood look" closet system on the market today is built from particle board or MDF held together with urea-formaldehyde adhesives. The EPA classifies formaldehyde as a known human carcinogen, and California’s public health data attributes 86–231 lifetime cancer cases per million to particle-board exposure at "acceptable" levels. CARB-compliant melamine is not formaldehyde-free — it is formaldehyde-reduced. We don’t use it.

Solid wood closet systems are also dramatically more durable. Particle-board shelves sag under hanging clothes, swell at the slightest moisture, and crumble when you try to re-anchor a screw. Solid wood does not. Lundia is built to commercial-grade load standards — the same construction we’ve supplied to libraries, hospitals, and military bases for over 50 years. See the full strength specifications.

Heavy-Duty Steel Hang Bars on Solid Wood Rails

One of the most-overlooked weak points in any closet system is the hang bar. Lundia uses solid wood rails that support heavy-duty steel hang bars — finished with a durable powder coat that’s as beautiful as it is tough. Unlike the bowed, sagging rods you’ll find in most particle-board systems, Lundia hang bars are built to heavy-duty commercial-grade standards and will never bow — period. See full hang bar specifications.

Choose Your Closet Depth

Lundia wood closet systems come in five standard depths so you can match the space exactly — from a slim hallway to a deep walk-in. Click any depth to see frames, shelves, hang bars, and drawers in that size:

9" Deep Hallways & narrow walls — small books & small shoes 12" Deep Bookcases, pantries & shoe racks (no hanging or drawers) 15" Deep The closet industry’s most popular depth — reach-in & walk-in closets 18" Deep Extra shelf & drawer space — doors over pants & smaller items 24" Deep Closets & wardrobes with doors — doors close over all hanging

Wood Closet Systems — Frequently Asked Questions

Are Lundia closet systems really 100% solid wood?

Yes. Every panel and shelf in a Lundia closet system is solid lumber — not veneered particle board, not MDF, not melamine. We disclose every material we use, including the glue. View our material safety data.

How are wood closet systems different from melamine or wire systems?

Melamine systems are particle board with a printed plastic film. They look like wood but off-gas formaldehyde and fail when wet. Wire systems are inexpensive but bend, snag fabric, and let small items fall through. Solid wood is the only option that is both healthy and built to last decades. Read the full comparison.

Are wood closet systems more expensive?

Often less than you’d expect. Customers regularly tell us Lundia comes in at half the price of California Closets or The Container Store’s premium lines — and ours is real wood. See pricing examples.

Can I install a wood closet system myself?

Yes. Lundia closet systems ship as flat-pack components and assemble easily — no specialty tools, no carpentry experience needed. Watch how Lundia works.
